Can you look at the graph of light measurements and see the effects of cloudy days? Of the changing seasons?

This plot shows the light levels measured at the sea surface (red) compared with light measured on the bottom (blue) 78 ft (23.8 m) down at the East Flower Garden Banks.

Notice how the peaks and valleys in the light data line up between the platform and the bottom. The low light periods are probably cloudy days. You should be able to see a gradual increase in light levels between the winter and summer months.

This trend is generally matched by bottom light levels, but do you see the low period during the summer that doesn't really match the trend? Read on to find out more.
